SPECIALIZED SERVICES

HDD Steering

The pilot hole defines the actual path of the crossing. Steering means continuously measuring the position, inclination and azimuth of the downhole tool and correcting the path rod by rod to keep it within design tolerances: minimum cover, bend radii and entry and exit points.

JCR Specialized HDD Services operates wireline and walkover navigation systems, depending on the length, depth and conditions of each crossing.

When is it needed?

  • Long or deep crossings where walkover systems lose range or accuracy.
  • River crossings and areas with no surface access above the bore path.
  • Projects in densely populated areas with existing utilities and interferences.

Scope

  • Operation of wireline systems (Paratrack).
  • Operation of walkover systems (DCI, Underground Magnetics).
  • Rod-by-rod trajectory control during the pilot hole.
  • Support to the driller on steering corrections.

Deliverables

  • Rod-by-rod navigation log.
  • As-built bore profile vs. design.

Frequently asked questions

Which navigation systems do you operate?

Paratrack (wireline), DCI and Underground Magnetics (walkover).

When is a wireline system preferable to a walkover system?

On long or deep crossings, or where there is no surface access above the bore path, such as rivers.

Does the service include the navigation equipment?

No. The service covers operation of the navigation system; equipment is not included.
